The Major Headlines
Today, we are going to have a somewhat change in content, and rather than covering just one major Press Release, instead I am going to review a few of them, because I think they are all worthy of mention. I do this from time to time, in order to keep things lively on this blog site. So, here we go . . .
On The Top Of A List
A Biometrics Vendor known as “Lumidigm” has just announced that it has been placed on the top of a Startups List. Here are the details of this: “Lumidigm today announced that the company has been chosen for inclusion in the 2011 edition of the fundedIDEAS publication TOP 300 STARTUPS. Lumidigm develops and deploys biometric fingerprint sensors that use multispectral imaging to capture superior images quickly, on any person, in any environmental conditions . . . TOP 300 STARTUPS features those startups that secured the highest rating in 14 parameters that were applied to over 2500 companies which secured venture funding in 2010. Lumidigm emerged with a final ranking of 29, placing them near the top of that elite list - on the strength of its management team, business model, execution strategy and technological innovations.” (SOURCE: http://www.findbiometrics.com/industry-news/i/8841/).
Well, I have to say that this is a major accolade for this Biometrics Vendor. Being placed near the upper third on such an elite list does certainly speak well. I think what makes this Biometrics Vendor unique, and what stands them out from the rest of the crowd is that their technology and solutions incorporate what is known as “multispectral imaging technology”. With this technique, not only can the fingerprint image be captured, but also on the subsurface, or what is beneath it. This can be a great thing to have, especially if a Fingerprint Sensor cannot capture a reliable image directly from the fingerprint itself. It can then go below the skin, capture and extract the unique features, and create a robust Biometric Template.
An Alliance Announced
A major Biometrics Vendor (known as “Morpho”), and an engineering school known as the “Telecom ParisTech” have publicly released the details of a partnership. Here are some of the details: “Morpho (Safran group) and French engineering school Telecom ParisTech (part of Institut Telecom) have launched a collaborative research center, the IDentity & Security Alliance (The Morpho and Telecom ParisTech Research Center), to address the technological challenges of data security and identity protection . . . The IDentity & Security Alliance will have an international scope and will focus on developing and enabling next-generation identity-based applications while guaranteeing privacy and security. It's aim is to build a scientific knowledge base covering research topics such as biometrics, cryptography, IT security, components security and identity management systems. Projects will be based on a mutual exchange of technology and research expertise, involving researchers from both Telecom ParisTech and Morpho.” (SOURCE: http://www.findbiometrics.com/industry-news/i/8840/).
So as you can see, the resultant of this effort is the creation of a new research center. In my view, what is unique about this is that the nature of this project seems to be international in scope, and is open to ideas and other entities in furthering the efforts of research and development when it comes to Identity Management and Cybersecurity. What I like even more is that it is not just one piece of Security Technology which will be studied, but a whole mixture of them, including my favorites of Biometrics and Cryptography.
The Next Generation Fingerprint Database Launched
Remember, I have written some previous Postings about the FBI replacing its current AFIS database??? Well, the project has been completed, and here are the details: “MorphoTrak (Safran group), the FBI and Lockheed Martin have announced the successful launch of the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system. NGI incorporates the Morpho Biometric Search Services (MBSS) as the core processing and matching capability using 10 fingerprints . . . This milestone is the culmination of a highly competitive evaluation of system performance and long-term value.” (SOURCE: http://www.findbiometrics.com/industry-news/i/8837/).
Well, this is certainly big news. I have reviewed the details of this endeavor before, so I am not going to rehash it all here. But, what I will be most interested in are the issues and the controversies which will surround the use of this next generation fingerprint database. Since ten Fingerprint Biometric Templates can now be stored and analyzed, believe me, there will be people who will complain about it, especially from the suspects whom are apprehended based by the evidence collected by this database. I think the biggest complaint will be about violation of Civil Rights, and the Federal Government misuse of fingerprints.
This one is very great and excellent information of biometric security .I like this excellent biometric security service. It is classic and excellent service.
