I have discussed the use of Biometric Technology in lots of different types of Market Applications, but here is one I have not yet discussed . . .
Biometrics And The Ocean
Apparently, there has been an increased number of attacks and invasions onto ships in the Gulf Area (Middle East). Most of these attacks have been happening in the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, and the Red Sea. Well, now Security Technology is making a scene, and Biometrics is incorporated into it. The Security Vendor is called GateKeeper USA, and its Security Device is called "ECHO".
This type of Security Device is configured to be put into all parts of the ship. If the ship is attacked or invaded, an alarm will go off, then signals will be sent across various channel frequencies. It is important to note that these signals are encrypted, so it will be difficult for non-recipients of the signals to decipher them. As a result, this allows for 24 X 7 scanning of the attacked vessel, as well as its location, in real time.
How does Biometrics exactly fit in here? Well, "the [ECHO] devices are equipped with Intrusion / Tampering Biometrics Scanner-Reader, and real time streaming video, that will transmit Biometric information of intruders for identification." Final Thoughts On Today’s Posting
I think the use of Biometric Technologies for these types of applications should be expanded further upon. Travel and Points of Entry do not just involve airports or Border Control Points, they also involve Maritime Points of Entry. In fact, I think the use of Biometric Technology would be an excellent choice of Security specifically for Cargo Vessels, and Maritime Cargo Points of Entry. We seem to talk so much about Airport Security, we seem to neglect Maritime Security. Maritime Points of Entry are just as vulnerable if not more than Airports and Border Control Points.
